The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is designing the State Road 414 Expressway extension. The 3.3-mile project will provide a direct connection between the eastern end of the SR 414 (John Land Apopka Expressway) and Interstate 4 (I-4). The project will improve system connectivity between SR 429 and I-4 to meet current and future traffic needs, improve safety, and support commercial transit.
This project will feature an elevated, limited-access expressway within the median of the existing SR 414 (Maitland Boulevard) to provide needed capacity between US 441 and I-4.
Design start: July 2023
Anticipated design completion: Early 2026

Project History
The SR 414 corridor has been a congestion hotspot for years. In fact, as part of the recent I-4 Ultimate project, the Florida Department of Transportation elevated Maitland Boulevard between the Interstate and Maitland Summit Boulevard. This project removed traffic signals, created new local access ramps, and improved traffic flow. However, a bottleneck remained on Maitland Boulevard between Maitland Summitt Boulevard and US 441. During peak travel times, it can take drivers up to 30 minutes to pass through three signalized intersections that remain between I-4 and the current terminus of the SR 414 Expressway. As a result, CFX began the planning process for completing the missing link in this critical piece of the regional transportation network.
The project was included in the following CFX plans and studies:
- CFX Visioning + 2045 Master Plan – 2022
- CFX Five-Year Work Plan FY2024-FY2028
- PD&E Study Completed – June 2022
Coordination will continue with FDOT as the project progresses. Modifications will be made to SR 414 between SR 434 and Maitland Summit Boulevard to accommodate the new expressway extension.
About Public Involvement
Public involvement and interagency coordination will be an integral part of the design process, and opportunities for public participation will be provided. CFX anticipates holding a virtual public meeting as part of this project.
Additional Information
Property owners near a proposed transportation project often want to know an agency’s process for buying needed private property. Click here for the Central Florida Expressway Authority’s policy on right-of-way acquisition.
