(ORLANDO, FL) – As part of its plan to provide options to Central Florida drivers during the I-4 Ultimate Project, the Central Florida Expressway Authority is excited to announce that, starting Friday, February 20, 2015, Polk County residents can sign up for a free E-PASS transponder for their vehicles. The transponders will help make it easier for commuters currently using Interstate-4 to use an alternate route, like State Road 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) or State Road 429 (Daniel Webster Western Beltway), to travel to or around downtown Orlando.
Not only do tolls cost less when paid electronically, E-PASS customers can earn volume discounts when they use expressways operated by CFX. The CFX Board will explore more options to encourage drivers to use the expressway system as an alternative to Interstate-4 at its March meeting.
“We think our expressway system is a good alternative all the time, but we think it will be even more important while Interstate-4 is under construction,” said Welton Cadwell, chairman of the Central Florida Expressway Authority.
Transponders are already free for residents of Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties and can be used on any toll road in the state with E-PASS, SunPass or LeeWay signs. It can also be used on toll roads in Georgia and North Carolina. Already, more than 8% of E-PASS customers live in Polk.
To sign up, go to www.EPASStoday.com, call 407-823-7277 or visit either of the E-PASS services centers, located at 8919 West Colonial Drive and 762 South Goldenrod Road.
E-PASS was the first electronic toll collection system in Florida when it was introduced in 1994. Today, more than 500,000 Central Florida residents have E-PASS.
