April 18, 2025 (Orlando, FL) ̶ The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) joins the Federal Highway Administration and other transportation organizations nationwide in the push to encourage drivers to take extra caution when entering and passing through work zones during National Work Zone Awareness Week April 21-25, 2025. CFX invites members of the Central Florida community to join others around the country in wearing orange to show support for work zone safety on Wednesday April 23, Go Orange Day.
Each year, public agencies, organizations, and individuals across the country come together to advocate for the women and men who risk their lives in work zones each day to build and maintain our roadways. National Work Zone Awareness Week has been observed for more than 20 years and was launched as a public awareness campaign to help everyone understand they play a role in keeping motorists and roadway workers safe.
This year’s national theme is “Respect the Zone So We All Get Home”. It aims to remind people that it is critical to use extra caution in and around work zones, and that regardless of where you work, we all deserve to arrive home safely.
“We’re dedicated to improving and expanding our world-class transportation network to better serve drivers throughout Central Florida. While construction and work zones may cause temporary disruptions, they’re essential steps in building a stronger, more efficient system for our community.” said Michelle Maikisch, Executive Director for CFX. “With nearly 100 miles under construction on CFX’s system, we are urging drivers to pay attention, slow down, and put down your phones to help eliminate work zone traffic incidents.”
